"Life is what happens when you are
busy making other plans."
- Allen Saunders & John Lennon
You've heard that saying many times before. And, in nearly all cases, it is true.
I want to begin by apologizing for the extremely long absence of any activity on the blog, this summer. Normally, I would be posting regularly about farmers market demos, or seasonal recipe projects.
I would love to tell you how I was off on some exotic world vacation, experiencing all the culinary delights that this planet contains. But honestly, I've been home. Being a stay-at-home dad, even. See, at the end of May, while my family was in Iowa at the funeral of my wife's grandmother, my job of eight years was eliminated in the first round of a corporate culling of sorts.
So, you would think I would have so much free time, then, right? WRONG! The summer seems to have been busier than any of the summers when I was working full time. Chasing my boys around, keeping up with housework, and job searching has filled all my empty time slots.
So, the blog has suffered. However, the situation did lead me to start looking for some income. So, I finally acted on a concept that I have had since about 2011 or 2012. I wanted to start up an underground supper club of sorts in the Joplin area. I finally took the plunge and had my first event as The Absent Kitchen. It was met with rave reviews, and I already have the second dinner planned. Be looking for a blog post about the next dinner, coming soon.
What else have I got going on?
* Well, my "Get to Know Your Farmer" series has been a bust, thus far. I've not had the time to get out to some of the local farms and do interviews. I still hope to work on that series for the blog.
* I have many interesting goodies in my freezer for upcoming projects including: goat shanks and goat livers from Penn Acres, beef tongue, beef heart, some lamb belly, and even an entire pig head from my friends over at Wild Bunch Farm. So, keep an eye out for any fun projects from those components.
* In case you missed it, Kevin McClintock of the Joplin Globe's publication JMag magazine, wrote a fantastic article about Frank About Food back in the May/June 2016 edition. You can read the article online here: Taste: Speaking Frankly
I appreciate all the continued support! Please keep checking back to see what's new. And I will have all the information about the upcoming The Absent Kitchen event, right here, very soon!
